Several people across
the UK reported witnessing a“sci-fi”-like event Sunday evening with many taking
to social media to share clips of the mysterious incident and seek
explanations.
One of the videos shows
a flying object flying out of a huge, long cloud with lightning bolts striking
over Gloucestershire.
“At about 1:12 in the
video as the car drives by, an object flies from the cloud left to right,” said
Longlevens resident Mark Ravey.
“Unsure what this is
…any ideas?”
“The storm had no sound
and we spotted outer strange anomalies in the sky as well,” witness RavenWolf
added.
“The object you see
must be solid because the lightning is not making it look transparent like the
clouds.”
Jeff Mays gave his explanation for the puzzling occurrence:
“I watched the whole episode from Abbeymead and observed an aircraft fly left
and right along the cloud, and it also flew towards and away from the cloud. I
assume it was the Met Office aircraft probing the unusual weather future.”
Scientists, however, suggested that the phenomenon that
was also seen in the West Midlands, Wales, and South West, is called
intra-cloud lightning.
It occurs when lightning stays completely within the
cloud.
