A crazy TikTok trend is making people smash their faces with hammers to get a chiseled jawline!

Videos of users trying the “bone smashing” trend flooded the social media platform with over 261.9 million views as of Monday although many participants are warning of the risky stunt.

“I honestly never thought I’d have to come on here and say this, but please don’t intentionally break the bones in your face,” Plastic Surgeon Dr. Prem Tripathi said.

The doctor posted a TikTok video informing users that broken bones could heal incorrectly and cause permanent disfiguration.

“If you’re not given the genetics to have a [strong] jawline, unfortunately, you have to see a professional.”

The trend stems from a theory of the 19th century, known as Wolff’s law.

At the time, German anatomist and surgeon Julius Wolff suggested that bones are animate structures that could change over the person’s lifespan and remodel every time they sustain physical stress.

Wolff added that bones grew weaker and thinner if not subjected to trauma or force stress.

Critics argued that the theory downplays the risks of complications and lifelong issues that can result from purposely smashing one’s bones.
