An elderly Russian
woman learned that she has lived 80 years with a 3 cm needle in her brain!
The shocking discovery
was made by doctors during a CT scan, according to a Wednesday statement from
the local health department in Sakhalin.
It is believed that the woman has survived an
attempt of infanticide carried out by her family in her early weeks.
“Such cases during
years of famine were not uncommon,” the statement read.
Poor families often
resorted to killing their infants without leaving evidence during the perilous
times of the Second World War.
“The needle penetrated
her left parietal lobe, but it did not have the intended effect – the girl
survived.”
The woman never
complained of any headaches or health troubles related to the needle.
“Her condition is being monitored by the attending
physician,” the statement added.
