Woman escaped lightning strike

After taking a selfie of herself on her morning walk with her hair standing on end, a woman was forewarned that she probably cheated death.

The social media user experienced "a very tingling feeling in my head/forehead" while walking her dogs on the Jersey shore, and she also noted that her hair was starting to become frizzy.

She later shared a picture of the strange phenomenon, known as "static hair," on Facebook and wrote that she could hear thunder rumbling around 25 kilometers distant, along the French coast.

Users were quick to point out how dangerously near she could have been to catastrophe.

One poster wrote: ‘An electric charge builds up as part of a “positive lightning strike”.

‘The charge is what makes your hair stand up. You may not think you’re in trouble if the storm looks to still be off in the distance. But that electric charge is a sure sign that you should get inside as quickly as possible.’

Another added that she was ‘lucky to still be walking and talking’.

Another user posted a photo of themselves with their hair on end at another beach, saying:  ‘This happened to me a couple of years ago… crikey I had no idea I was that close to being fried.’

The best option in such situation, according to experts, is to find a house, a sizable building, or an all-metal vehicle, and enter as soon as you can.
5% to 10% of these instances result in death.
