An unruly peacock is in the custody of Cherokee County authorities after he repeatedly ran into traffic in the New Light Road area in recent days.

The peacock, now a “jailbird”, had been causing trouble with residents calling the police over public safety concerns.

Neighbors said that every once in a while the bird wanders out of his enclosure to “strut his stuff” in the middle of the street.

On Facebook, he was referred to by many names including Mich, Kevin, Phil, and Winston…

The neighborhood resident, however, became a real menace when he started running into traffic on Thursday.

“Use caution if traveling in the area. Fowl play is suspected,” the Sheriff’s Office warned.

Not long after the incidents, a brave deputy responded to the scene and helped coerce the peacock who will now have to strut off in custody.
